Six beauties and the beef

SIX beautiful young women, each representing a breed of cattle, are vying for the title of Beef Week Queen.

The crowning of Beef Week Queen will take place at the Casino RSM Club tonight.

Each of the young women is excited to have made the finals and all are looking forward to playing a part in the Beef Week festivities.

Kathleen Hancock, 20, of Casino, works in aged care and is representing Bradford. She has always loved the Beef Week parade and been involved with it since she was little.

“Now I am older I wanted to give the Beef Week Queen title a go,” she said.

Margaret Young, 18, of Dyraaba, is a legal secretary and representing Red Angus. While she has always taken cattle to Beef Week, this year she hopes to be wearing a crown.

“I hope to make everyone proud,” she said.

Anna Supple, 21, of Fairy Hill, is an executive assistant with Westlawn Finance and is representing Brahman.

She has been asked for the last three to four years to try out for Beef Queen.

“I don't have the confidence normally, but this year decided to give it a go,” she said. “I'm outgoing but not good at public speaking.”

Co-workers Tiarna Brooker, 19, and Cathy Broadrick, 19, both of Casino and working for Scrivener and Webb Pharmacy are very happy to be in the finals.

Ms Brooker is representing Romagnola and Ms Broadrick is representing Santa Gertrudis.

“It's not something I would normally do but now I am really excited,” Ms Brooker said.

“I was the one who dragged her along,” Ms Broadrick laughed.

“Now I'm excited about it and a little nervous.”

Courtney Lane, 19, of Strath-eden, is representing Limousin and is excited and nervous at the same time as well.

“My favourite part of Beef Week would be the Saturday with the main parade,” she said.

Richmond Valley mayor Col Sullivan will crown the Beef Week Queen after the official openingby Beef Week president StuartGeorge tonight.
