Steep rise in young people turning out to vote
THERE has been a steep rise in the number of young people enrolled to vote at the upcoming Federal election.
Greens candidate for the seat of Page Kudra Falla-Ricketts, who herself has just finished high school, has welcome the latest enrolment figures from the Australian Electoral Commission.
The AEC has revealed that 18 year old voter enrolment has risen sharply from 51% to 71% since April.
Overall the percentage of voter enrolments among 18-24 year olds now stands at 86.7%.
"We have been very active in encouraging young people to engage with politics and get on the roll," Falla-Ricketts said.
