Sunshine Sugar, a bright, local and sweet deal for locals
SUNSHINE Sugar is a local brand that is taking steps to sweeten its appeal in the local community.
In partnership with Ritchie's Supa IGA store in Ballina the local sugar processor will be promoting its products so more locals can be proud to buy local.
The three raw sugar mills at Condong, Broadwater and Harwood, as well as the refinery at Harwood, are grower-owned in partnership with Australian family-owned icon Manildra.
Sunshine Sugar is now the only Australian-owned refined sugar operation.
They are also the only sugar business in the world that is Bonsucro certified (sustainable, environmental community certified) from the grower right through the sugar milling and refining operations.
While the company supply generic brands into
supermarkets around Australia they felt they haven't had their own identity out there for the local community to be able to support them.
As an industry Sunshine Sugar employ over 600 personnel and are responsible for an additional 500 jobs.
They have over 500 farmers and there are many local businesses that rely on their success.
