Take up island paddle challenge for Las Balsas anniversary
THE Ballina Kawaihae Outrigger Canoe Club is issuing a challenge.
It's a paddle challenge for paddlers of any type of paddle craft.
The Round the Island Paddle Challenge will be held on Saturday, November 16, before the inaugural Ballina Prawn Festival celebrating 40 years of Las Balsas.
Outgoing club president, Annaliese Halvorsen, said the event focused on fun.
She said owners of any paddle craft could take part, from canoes and kayaks to stand-up paddle boards and surf skis.
There will be a competitive element for the quicker paddlers, but all those who take part will be in with the chance to win prizes.
The paddlers will be set off from the Cawarra Park boat ramp in Ballina, at the North Creek end of Martin St. Sign-on begins at the boat ramp at 7.15am.
They will then paddle around Ballina island, which is a distance of about 10 kilometres.
The Ballina Lighthouse and Lismore Surf Life Saving Club will be on hand for safety.

There will be a barbecue after the event.
It costs $20 to take part.
