Technology link to learning
FORMER relieving assistant principal at Tweed's Bogangar Public School Lauren Hankinson is now principal at Urbenville Public School.
Mrs Hankinson grew up in Ballina before completing her Master of Education and Bachelor of Education (Honours) at Southern Cross University.
She has taught in rural and Far North Coast NSW, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Japan.
"I instantly fell in love with the school and Crown Mountain in the background. With Urbenville only an hour from anywhere, how could I not love it?" Mrs Hankinson said.
"I'll present quality education to the children of Urbenville, while developing and maintaining relationships between the school and the community.
"2014 is the first year that this school will use social media to improve parental communication, while helping students learn safe and courteous online behaviour.
"It should also increase community involvement and enrich student learning."
She will use her extensive technological ability to help students learn skills to thrive in today's world.
The website Mrs Hankinson developed at Bogangar now receives up to 3000 hits a month compared to the 400 hits the old website got.
The new Urbenville Public School app she created will soon be available at the App Store.
In May, Mrs Hankinson will showcase how technology is used in the classroom at the 2014 Inclusive Learning Technologies Conference at Jupiter's Casino.
"This will offer a 'virtual window' for parents to see each day's events at school.
"I'm so excited at not only being principal at Urbenville and striving to be the best I can, but also striving for the school to be the best it can."
Mrs Hankinson is inviting inquiries for 2014 enrolments and is happy to show what the school has to offer.
