1. Northern Rivers Big Band 

THE Northern Rivers Big Band, in association with the Northern Rivers Community Foundation, will offer a fundraising concert this weekend.

The band will be offering new instrumental arrangements and vocal arrangements from singers Laura Nobel and Kristian Keogh.

At the Lismore Workers Club this Sunday from 2pm.

2. Elstree 1976

STAR Wars fans shouldn't miss this film.

It is 1976 in Elstree Northern London, where George Lucas starts filming the cinematic canon. This documentary focuses not on the making of the film, but delves into 10 on-screen extras at the time.

These people, unaware of how big the film would become, appear briefly in a movie that is to become a new Hollywood blockbuster.

This documentary paints an intimate portrait and follows their altered lives after being involved with the second biggest franchise in film history.

As part of the British Film Festival 2015, at Palace Cinemas Byron Bay today from 6.30pm.

3. Cinema Under the Stars

NEWCASTLE Permanent Cinema Under the Stars is back with two animated films as free family entertainment this weekend: Big Hero 6 in Ballina and Home in Lismore.

In Ballina, at Missingham Park tomorrow from 5.30pm.

In Lismore, at Hepburn Park, Goonellabah, this Saturday from 5.30pm.

4. Music in the Garden

THE second version of this event will be held in the garden area behind Wollongbar Hall. The first music afternoon, held last March, was such a success that the Ballina Shire Concert Band was keen to be involved in a repeat performance.

Wollongbar Children's Choir will also feature.

At the Wollongbar Hall this Sunday from 3pm.

5. The Nutcracker

PROFESSIONAL dancer Michael Braun will be performing the role of the Nutcracker Prince in the Byron Ballet's November season of The Nutcracker.

Tchaikovsky's brilliant musical score perfectly tells this magical story.

Young audiences will be mesmerised as Clara's Christmas party is transformed by the battle scene where King Rat is overthrown by the Nutcracker Prince.

Victorious, Clara and the prince journey to Candy Land where the sugar plum fairy and other people from exotic lands greet them in celebration.

Byron Ballet Company will be performing Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 2pm and 7pm and Sunday at 6pm at the Byron Theatre.
