Woman arrested for counterfeit $50 notes in Tweed

A WOMAN has been arrested for using a fake $50 note at Tweed City Shopping Centre.

This afternoon, detectives from the Tweed/Byron Local Area Command arrested a 25 years old female for using the note at the weekend.

"Police believe that there are still other offenders passing counterfeit notes in the community and encourage all business managers/owners to remind their staff to be vigilant when dealing handling $50 notes," crime co-ordinator Sergeant Stuart Crawford said.

The arrest comes after police released CCTV images of a woman who they wanted to talk to.

The counterfeit $50 notes have been circling Northern NSW and the Gold Coast for the past few weeks.

Last week police said the best way to test if the note was fake was the scrunch test.

They said if you scrunch the note in your hand and it reforms, it was real, if not it was likely to be a fake.

Police were unable to provide full details at this stage, updates to come.
